A-Level Ancient History explores the civilisations of ancient Greece and Rome, developing students' understanding of key events, individuals and societies. OCR J198 is the only A-Level Ancient History qualification available. It has two papers: Paper 1 (Period Study, 50%, 1hr 30min) covering a broad chronological period such as the Persian Wars or the Foundation of Rome; and Paper 2 (Depth Study, 50%, 1hr 30min) focusing in detail on a shorter period such as Sparta, Athens or the Roman Emperors. Both papers assess source analysis, interpretation skills, and the ability to construct sustained historical arguments.
