Painters like Claude Monet (founder of Impressionism), Auguste Renoir, and Henri Matisse revolutionised art. Le Musée du Louvre and le Musée d'Orsay house the world's greatest collections.
Francophone literature extends far beyond France. Albert Camus (Algerian-born French writer) won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1957. Le Clézio (Mauritian-French) won in 2008. In Sénégal, Mariama Bâ wrote Une si longue lettre (So Long a Letter), a seminal work of African feminist literature. In Belgium, Georges Simenon created the famous detective le Commissaire Maigret.
