🎯 Exam Tips

📝 Exam Technique

GCSE Spanish Exam Tips:
Use hotel and accommodation vocabulary. Form questions correctly (¿hay...?, ¿cuánto cuesta...?). Use formal register for hotel situations (usted). Include role-play language for booking and complaining.

⚠️ Common Errors

✗ Forgetting adjective agreement — writing "ella es inteligent" instead of "ella es inteligente" ✓ All Spanish adjectives must agree in gender and number with the noun they describe: inteligente works for both, but many add -a for feminine (alto/alta, bueno/buena).

✗ Using the wrong tense — preterite for descriptions instead of imperfect ✓ Use the imperfect for ongoing past actions, descriptions and habits (era, tenía, hacía). Use the preterite for completed single events (fue, tuvo, hizo).

✗ Confusing ser and estar — both mean "to be" but are used differently ✓ Ser is for permanent characteristics, identity, time (es grande, es español). Estar is for temporary states, location, progress (está cansado, está en Madrid).

✗ Translating directly from English word order — putting adjectives before nouns ✓ Most Spanish adjectives follow the noun: "la casa blanca" (not "la blanca casa"). Some change meaning depending on position (un gran hombre vs un hombre grande).

Notas Detalladas

I made a reservation for a double room with sea views at the Parador de Granada. The reservation includes buffet breakfast and access to the pool.

I'm sorry, but there is a problem with my room. The air conditioning doesn't work and the window won't open. Could I change to another room, please?

Instead of staying in a hotel, we rented an Airbnb apartment in the Malasaña neighbourhood. It's cheaper and we have our own kitchen.

(Write approx. 80-100 words in Spanish.)

Good morning. I'm sorry but I have several problems with my room. First, the air conditioning doesn't work and it is extremely hot. Second, the bathroom light won't turn on and at night it is dangerous. Third, there is a lot of noise from the street and I couldn't sleep all night. Also, the towels were dirty when I arrived. I would like you to move me to another room, preferably on a higher floor and facing the interior of the hotel. If that is not possible, I would like to request a refund of my booking.

(Write approx. 80-100 words in Spanish.)

When I travel, I prefer to stay in an apartment rather than a hotel. The main advantage is that you have more space and a kitchen where you can prepare your own food, which is cheaper and healthier. Also, you feel more like a local and can explore authentic neighbourhoods instead of tourist areas. However, hotels have advantages like cleaning service, the pool and twenty-four-hour reception. If I travel for a short time, a hotel is more convenient because I don't have to worry about anything. But for long stays, I definitely prefer an apartment.
