🎯 Exam Tips

📝 Exam Technique

GCSE Spanish Exam Tips:
Use the future tense for plans and predictions. Use the conditional for hypothetical situations, polite requests and advice. Use ir a + infinitive for near future. Know the irregular future/conditional stems.

⚠️ Common Errors

✗ Forgetting adjective agreement — writing "ella es inteligent" instead of "ella es inteligente" ✓ All Spanish adjectives must agree in gender and number with the noun they describe: inteligente works for both, but many add -a for feminine (alto/alta, bueno/buena).

✗ Using the wrong tense — preterite for descriptions instead of imperfect ✓ Use the imperfect for ongoing past actions, descriptions and habits (era, tenía, hacía). Use the preterite for completed single events (fue, tuvo, hizo).

✗ Confusing ser and estar — both mean "to be" but are used differently ✓ Ser is for permanent characteristics, identity, time (es grande, es español). Estar is for temporary states, location, progress (está cansado, está en Madrid).

✗ Translating directly from English word order — putting adjectives before nouns ✓ Most Spanish adjectives follow the noun: "la casa blanca" (not "la blanca casa"). Some change meaning depending on position (un gran hombre vs un hombre grande).

Notas Detalladas

Next year I will study Spanish in Madrid. I will live with a Spanish family and improve my vocabulary. If I could, I would also travel to Barcelona to see the Sagrada Familia.

Primero, visitaría Perú para ver Machu Picchu, después iría a Argentina para comer asado y aprender a bailar tango.
If I were rich, I would travel throughout Latin America. First, I would visit Peru to see Machu Picchu, then I would go to Argentina to eat asado and learn to dance tango.

I would like to work in the sustainability sector because I am worried about the environment. If I could, I would create an organisation to protect the oceans.

(Write approx. 80-100 words in Spanish.)

After my GCSEs, I have many plans. First, I will study A Levels in Spanish, history and biology. I will work hard to get good grades because I want to go to university. Then, I will travel to Spain during the summer to improve my Spanish. I will live with a family in Seville and attend flamenco classes. In the future, I would like to study languages at university and then work as a translator. If all goes well, one day I will live in a Spanish-speaking country. I am sure that Spanish will open many doors in my professional career.

(Write approx. 80-100 words in Spanish.)

If I could change three things about my city, first I would improve public transport because right now it is slow and insufficient. If we had more buses and a metro, people would use cars less and there would be less pollution. Second, I would create more parks and green spaces because right now there are few and children have nowhere to play. If there were more nature in the city, people would be happier and healthier. Third, I would build more affordable housing for young people because right now rents are extremely expensive. If rents were cheaper, more young people could become independent.
