Why Scottrix?
Privacy-First Design
Unlike most online tools, every Scottrix tool runs entirely in your web browser using client-side JavaScript. This means:
- Your data stays on your device. When you format JSON, calculate your mortgage, or revise a topic, nothing is sent to any server. Not now, not ever.
- No accounts or logins. We don't ask for your name, email, or any personal information. Just open a tool and start using it.
- No tracking or analytics. We don't use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any third-party tracking. We do host sponsored affiliate links (clearly labelled) and accept no advertiser scripts that set tracking cookies of their own on this site.
- Open source. All Scottrix projects are available on GitHub so you can inspect the code yourself.
How to Use Scottrix Tools
DevTools — Open the DevTools site, select a category from the sidebar (e.g. “Encoding”, “Generators”, “Formatters”), then choose the tool you need. Paste your input, configure any options, and the result appears instantly. All processing happens in your browser.
FinTools — Select a calculator from the sidebar or the category tabs. Enter your figures (salary, loan amount, interest rate, etc.) and results update in real-time. The UK tax calculator automatically applies the correct tax bands, National Insurance rates, and student loan thresholds for the 2025/26 tax year.
GCSE Revise — Choose your subject from the home page, then navigate to the strand and topic you want to revise. Each topic page contains comprehensive notes written for the AQA, OCR, and Edexcel specifications. Use the sidebar to move between related topics. Toggle between dark and light mode using the moon/sun button in the header.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are Scottrix tools really free?
Yes, all tools and revision notes are completely free to use. There are no premium tiers, no account requirements, and no usage limits. The site is supported by clearly labelled affiliate links.
Is my data safe?
All tool operations run in your browser. When you paste JSON into the formatter, enter your salary into the tax calculator, or read revision notes, that data never leaves your device. There is no server-side processing of your inputs.
Do I need to create an account?
No. No account, no login, no sign-up. Just visit the site and start using the tools immediately.
Which exam boards does GCSE Revise cover?
GCSE Revise covers AQA, OCR (including J277 for Computer Science, J204 for Geography, J205 for Economics), Edexcel, and WJEC Eduqas specifications. Each topic page indicates which exam boards the content is aligned with.
How accurate are the financial calculators?
The calculators use up-to-date tax bands and formulae for the 2025/26 tax year. Currency conversion rates are fetched from a live API. However, the calculators are for informational purposes only and should not replace professional financial advice. Always verify important calculations independently.
Can I use these tools on my phone?
Yes. All Scottrix sites are fully responsive and work on phones, tablets, and desktops. GCSE Revise also offers a dedicated mobile-friendly layout with a collapsible sidebar for easy topic navigation.
Is the code open source?
Yes. All Scottrix projects are on GitHub: DevTools, FinTools, GCSE Revise, and EasyPlayTV. You can inspect the code, report issues, or suggest improvements.
About Scottrix
Scottrix is an independent project creating free, privacy-respecting web tools. Founded by developer Scott Rix, the project started with a simple goal: build useful tools that don't compromise your privacy. Every tool is designed to work without a backend server, without collecting personal data, and without requiring an account.
The project spans four distinct sites: DevTools for everyday developer tasks, FinTools for personal finance calculations, GCSE Revise for students preparing for their GCSE examinations, and EasyPlayTV documentation for a free Kodi add-on providing UK live TV and on-demand content.
All code is open source and available on GitHub. Feedback, bug reports, and suggestions are welcome — contact us at contact@scott.scottrix.co.uk. Learn more about Scottrix →
